Open Question: What do you think about the artical I wrote?
It's for summer school. We have to pick any three myths and disprove them. I chose mine in the diet section. HOw do you like it? Any suggestions? Any comments or constructive criticism? Will give 10pts 1. Being Slightly Overweight is Bad for your health Not quite so. As it turns out, it could be exactly the opposite. According to a recent Canadian study, people slightly overweight live longer than than those of a medically normal or healthy range. Even though the study only looked at deaths during, not quality of life.It is becoming clear that a few extra pounds may help protect the human body. So yeah go ahead and have that extra bowl of pasta, just not everyday. 2. Skipping breakfast will help you lose weight As much I wish it did it doesn't. Statistics show that as many as one in four, to one in two Americans don't consume breakfast. Researchers have found that not eating a breakfast can contribute to high cholesterol levels, a decreases sensitivity to insulin, weight gain, heart disease and iron deficiency among other things. Just some more reasons to consume breakfast. 3. For women, weight training will make you look masculine Nope! To bulk up from weight training would take a lot of weight lifting and a diet with lots of protein. Strength training will increase the amount of muscle you have, which in turn will increase your metabolism, but not likely will not give you very much added bulk. The reason behind this is because women don't make enough testosterone as men. They see men weight lift and get bulky and think that will happen to them, but because women don't produce very much testosterone, the hormone that allows men to build muscle as the do moreResolved Question: What do you think about this [ I wrote ]?

Here is my speech. it is not finished. i can't think of anything else to put in. I need 100 more words. can you help me pls. thank you! :) Life is like a box of chocolate, you never know what you are going to get. Good morning everyone. I am here to talk about the delicious chocolate. Have you ever wondered when chocolate started and who first invented it? The chocolate started over 2000 years ago. The word chocolate comes from the Aztec word chocolat. It means bitter water. Chocolate comes from the seed of a cacao tree where is mostly found at tropical places like in west Africa. The cacao tree waworshipeded by the Mayacivilizationon of Central America and Southern Mexico. They are the ones who first discovered chocolate. According to the legend, the Aztec ruler consumed up to fifty cups of chocolate drink a day. The Aztec treat the chocolate as the food of Gods. The Aztecs and the Spaniards used cacao seeds as their currency. The Spaniards invaded the Aztecs and brought the cacao seeds back home to Spain and the chocolate drink was popular in Spain then it spread throughout Europe where new technologies and innovation changed the texture and thflavorur of chocolate. Good chocolate always gives a rich and fulflavorur. There are 4 different main types of chocolate such as milk chocolate, dark chocolate, bittersweet and white chocolate. Dark chocolate is the healthiest chocolate of all. Dark chocolate is a stronflavorur than milk chocolate. There are many health benefits of dark chocolate. It contains high anti- oxidants that can lower blood pressure and can prevent bad cholesterol and heart disease. Dark chocolate is a substitute for a glass of wine. There is an ingredient of chocolate called theobromine that can prevent you from coughing. Many adults prefer dark chocolate and most of the children prefer milk chocolate. Scientists theorize that this is because of dark chocolate's stronger taste. as taste buds age they become less sensitive, and dark chocolate is a more prominenflavorur for adults. Chocolate can have a risk of being obesity especially. Milk chocolate contains milk powder or condensed milk. Milk chocolate is high in calories and fat. In fact, it was prescribed to help fatten up patients suffering from wasting disease like tuberculosis. One researcher at the aromocology patch experimented with helping patients lose weight by having them sniff a chocolate-scented patch whenever they are were tempted to eat chocolate. White chocolate is formed of a mixture of cacao butter , sugar and milk. Chocolate is poisonous to animals because of the theobromine. White chocolate is the only chocolate that is not poisonous to animals. If you are feeling down or depressed, eat chocolate. Chocolate may increase your happiness. Chocolate is a good source of energy and can boost your immune system. Chocolate is a healthy diet and it is good for your body. It can relax you and even prolong your life. Chocolate is one of the most popular treats on holidays like Christmas, Easter, birthdays and especially valentines day. There is popular belief that chocolate can cause acne. But the U.S naval academy found that chocolate doesn’t cause you acne. Chocolate prevents your skin from ageing. It can soften your skin, remove wrinkles and blemishes. Dipped a strawberry or other fruits to a chocolate. And also you can dip a marshmallow on a chocolate. moreResolved Question: WTF am I supposed to eat?
OK, this is part question, part rant. I've been looking up healthy diets online (I know, terrible idea) and this is what I find: Eat small amounts of carbs, because they turn into fat later, so they're bad. Don't eat a lot of dairy, because it has a high fat content. Don't eat lots of protein, because the things that have protein are also high in cholesterol (meat) If I'm not eating carbs, fat or protein, then what do I eat? Apples and celery all day? (I know fruit is important, and I eat a lot of it, but you have to eat other stuff too.) I think a balanced diet and lots of exercise is the way to go, but most people don't seem to agree. Honestly, if you pretend to have a low carb, fat, and protein diet, then what you're really doing is barely eating all day, then having a shitload of ice-cream and cookies and cake and chocolate at night while nobodies watching. That's why you're still fat. Why is health in the media so f-ed up? The "fat free" foods are usually too high in sugar and vice vs.. People market foods, pretending they're healthy, and they're really just keeping everyone fat so that they can lie about more unhealthy foods. Why doesn't everyone just eat normal, natural foods, like whole grain bread and eggs and milk and bananas, instead of having stuff like "diet" coke (bullshit) and "fat free" potato chips? Think about it. People are fatter today, but they're trying more than ever to lose weight and be thin. Before, like 60 years ago (I wasn't alive then, but I can look at the stats) people didn't worry about it as much. They just ate stuff, got out of the house and walked around once in a while and didn't eat as many unnatural foods. It's really not that complicated, but everyone is making it so complicated. moreVoting Question: Should I stay in bed all day tomorrow to try to recuperate & get better?
I am 17 and on a scale from 1-10 (10 being the most) unhealthy, I am around a 7 or 8. I am obese, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, asthma, boils among many other things. I cut out white bread from my diet a month ago. I usually drunk 3-6 pepsi's a day. Two weeks ago, I cut my pepi intake in half and for the first week I had moderate headaches but overcome them and they stopped on the 6th day. A week ago, I started drinking no pepsi or just one every couple days. That was my main issue with losing weight, not eating too much. I can exercise with no issues. Now, I have been having a few other issues that are bothering me. Before, I needed 9 hours of sleep or I would wake up crabby all day, now I need at least 9 1/2 hours of sleep or I wake up sick. For the past 2 days, I have been feeling really sick. I woke up this morning with a migraine on the left part of my head, I felt dizzy and like I was going to throw up. 17 hours later, I'm still having a headache off and on. I was crying from the pain earlier. Mortins did not work, a cold wash rag didn't work, sleeping didn't work (I think it made it worse.) My stomach feels weak and it keeps growling though I have eaten, I feel hot but I'm not sick enough to be forced to lay in bed all day. Also, since I stopped drinking Pepsi, my boils have gotten so much worse. Before, I had 2-3 on each thigh and 3 on one armpit. I wash with antibacterial soap everyday. Now I have 6-8 on each thigh, which are spreading to my privates and are huge. I have no idea if this is my bodies way of trying to get used to the diet changes or if I have some type of infection in my blood. I'm just not sure what to do until I can see a doctor, which will not be for at least another week. I'm hoping I will get better before then. Should I just take the day off tomorrow, lay in bed and try to get better, or should I just do what I normally do? I don't want to risk getting sicker than what I am and I have no idea what to do for all of these symptoms. To add, I am not coughing nor have I thrown up. It's just weird. moreResolved Question: Is this diet healthy?

I had my cholesterol checked this week, and my Dr. said that my good cholesterol (HDL) was high and my bad cholesterol(LDL) was low... but she said my triglycerides were high. I'm 23 years old. I'm 5'3 and weigh about 105 lbs. I excercise regulary and eat mainly healthy.. I barely eat red meat if ever at all... My Dr. told me it could be genetics (since my moms side of the family has high triglycerides). The only thing I can think of that would make it go kinda high is my alcohol consumption. I only drink on the weekends though if I do?? I was wondering if anyone knows of a supplement that I could take that has WORKED FOR THEM in helping in lowering triglycerides. I'm getting my cholesterol rechecked in 3 months so I'm going to lower my alchol consumption to about nothing and keep my diet and exercise, but I would like to take some sort of supplement that can help as well..... Any suggestions from somewhere out there who has successfully lowered their triglycerides?? moreResolved Question: My hormones are making me fat,i need a change of diet.?

I need hand gestures my speech. Here is my speech Good morning/afternoon, Ms. Goodenough and fellow classmates. Would you like to know about the truth and the facts behind McDonald's? McDonald's has been spreading in our society today and every few months we hear about how a study has shown that it is bad for us or good for us. What are we to believe? In the speech it will talk about how the company began and it's facts, the positive side on McDonald's, and the negative side on McDonald's.[5] The company began in 1940, with a restaurant opened by Dick and Mac McDonald in San Bernardino, California. It all began when the brothers, Dick and Mac opened a hot dog stand called The Airdrome at the airport in Monrovia, California on 1937. The brothers then moved their stand to San Bernardino, California, where they first opened the first McDonald's restaurant, on U.S., route 66, at 14th and E Street, on May 5, 1940. Milkshake-mixer salesman Ray Kroc becomes fascinated by the McDonald's restaurant during a sales visit. Kroc approached the McDonald brothers, who have already begun franchising, with a proposition to let him franchise McDonald's restaurants outside the company's home base of California and Arizona, with him as the first franchisee. On 1963 Kroc made a children's show on WRC-TV called Bozo the Clown, after the show was canceled they made a new mascot, named Ronald McDonald.[6] Now to the good news. McDonald's has some good things like cheap food, if you buy a meal there it only cost less than 10$ or even 5$. It is worth it because their foods taste good and some of them are healthy like the Grilled chicken wrap with mustard, scrambled eggs, salads with grilled chicken, diet cola, water, juice, apple slices without the caramel dip. McDonald's menu has any kinds of alternatives like the beverages, breakfast, condiments, desserts/snacks, sauces, sandwiches, french fries, and salads. McDonald's do charity work for the children that needs help, they registered charities that help improve the physical and emotional quality of life for children with serious illness, chronic conditions and disabilities, and their families. Their restaurant are good for young kids because it is child friendly, they have toys for the kids to play with, they have the Happy Meal, along with the play land for the kids to enjoy.[5] Lastly, the negative effects. When eating for a month, for example when you eat 3 meals per day, McDonald's can cause your liver to fat liver, makes your cholesterol high like in the 2 hundreds, depression and makes you feel exhausted. In larger effects, McDonald's can cause you to have 2 times the heart disease and heart failure, massive cravings and head aches. McDonald's foods also carries LOTS of trans fat! Did you know that one medium fry has 5 grams of trans fat, that's more than you should even have in a day. [5] You can see that McDonald's can have both positive and negative effects on our health and well-being. The bottom line is that if you eat your meal regularly, you don't have to worry too much. So the next time you eat that second or third meal, think first, whether this will be healthy for you or not? Now at least you know what McDonald's is doing to you and what is not doing to you. Now, here is my question for the honourable judges, audience, teachers, quests, and fellow classmates 'Should people eat at McDonald's?'[5] moreResolved Question: Colesterol level - need some information?
Hi I am 35 old healthy woman. My GP made a blood test, just for yearly check up, and it shows that my bad cholesterol is higher than normal. The bad cholesterol is 6.1 (normal is between 2,6 - 5,2 mmol/l), my triglycerides are 0.9 (normal is 0.4 -1,7), and my HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol) is1,85 (normal is 0.90 - 2,40). My GP said that the higher cholesterol is not a big problem, since the spring is here and my diet will be richer in green food. Now I am confused, since I am mostly vegetarian and hardly eat animal products. Are there other factors that may cause higher cholesterol? Maybe stress or other things? and how can I help my body decrees this cholesterol level? moreVoting Question: My heart started skipping beats unusually often today....is something wrong?

I have had acne since highschool and am now 24. lately its been worse than ever. I eat mostly a organic, low saturated fat, low cholesterol, low glycemic diet. I have used everything: proactive, drug store products, dermatologist prescribed drugs, antibiotic, topical antibiotics. My skin is very plugged and I have been diagnosed with cystic acne yet nothing works. I get a really good facial whenever I can so that I can get most of the pores cleaned, yet they build right back up with oil and white/blackheads within weeks. Right now I'm trying some things out and trying to clear it up from the inside, not the outside. I'm sick of using all sorts of topicals which do nothing. I have nearly cut out Dairy (supposedly causes reactions dealing w/ Acne), drink a cup or 2 of green detox tea everyday, take fish oil omega vitamins, and drink a tablespoon of Maca Root powder in soy milk everyday (sup to balance hormones). Its very painful, as is most cystic acne, and much of it cannot even be removed from the skin by facialists, because it is so deep inside the pore. WHAT else can I do? Thanks for all that can help me with this. My husband is 39 and a diabetic. He also has high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis and had a double bypass last year. He drinks about 10-12 bottles of water a day along with a glass of juice and 2 diet Dr.P. He's been on glucophage and glipizide ER for over a year along with BP meds/cholesterol meds for his heart. Anyway, his appt w/his doc said his A1C is still 11.3. BP was 195/150. He walks 1.1 course a day also. Then they threw a new one at us...they said his Microalbum was 60.9 I can't find any level guide or anything. Is this extremely bad at 60.9? Although he said he definitely needs the insulin and probably more than the Metropolol (sp)/Simvistatin/Lovenox/aspirin (in addition to his diabetes meds. moreResolved Question: MORE FIBRE LESS FAT???!!!!?
Fiber comes from plant cell walls; it helps food pass through our body because our bodies don’t digest it. Whole grains are full of fiber and really good for you, cereal’s such as All Bran and oat bran have tons of fiber so having it for breakfast really helps your digestive system. Having high fiber diets can people avoid diseases like bowl cancer (because food passes through your body quicker it doesn’t absorb as much toxins) and constipation and it can cause pain and fever and sometimes diarrhea, bleeding and tenderness. Try having at least 7 serves of fruit and veggies a day top make sure you’re getting enough fiber and switch to brown bread, it has more fiber and less chemicals and it tastes better. We do need fat in our diets to keep us warm and give us energy but too much fat can lead to problems like high cholesterol and obesity. There are good fats and bad fat, such as avocados they have lots of fat but lots more nutrients then butter or margarine. Fat is in almost everything, milk meat even some veggies and fruit! Oils and fat contains the most calories out of everything witch sucks because it makes food yummy like fried chips, 100 grams has 12.4g fat, 239 calories and only 2.2g fiber. Take away places such at MacDonald’s hide lots of fat in there food (even in the milkshakes) for example 1 big Mac has 540calories (almost half the calories you can eat in a day) total fat is 30g and you should only have about 1200 calories a day and only about 30% from fat. To reduce the amount of fat you take in you can use some of these tips. Reducing fat Read labels on food before you eat Use non-stick fry pans (so you don’t need oil) Use oil sprays so you don’t use as much Use things like balsamic vinegar, lemon and mustard to add flavor to salad If you go to MacDonald’s only get a garden salad (only 20 calories!! fat free) Use cream cheese on toast instead of butter Only have skim milk and never have cream Mostly have diet foods that say stuff like 99% FAT FREE Jelly is a good snack and has low calories and no fat does that sound ok? what can i do to make it better moreResolved Question: Anyone have some ideas and recipes for playoff munchies that are heart friendly and cholesterol free?
My dad has to go for bypass surgery and as a result he has completely re-vamped his diet to avoid all the bad things and get more of the good things that he’s supposed to be eating. But, we’re watching my cousin play in the play-offs (hockey) and my dad can’t partake in our buttery popcorn and cheesy nachos. moreResolved Question: Can someone please help me summarize :(?
I have always had trouble summarizing. I simply don't know what to eliminate! :( My summary that i wrote so far is longer than the article!!!!!! =[ The article is on Cholesterol : Few people recognize cholesterol as a natural and essential part of our body. To many, it's something that should be avoided completely and people go to great lengths to avoid foods that contain it. But our body needs cholesterol to digest foods, produce hormones and to protect our cells. Confusion about cholesterol exists because many people don't realize there is a difference between blood cholesterol and dietary cholesterol. Blood cholesterol is the cholesterol that circulates in your blood. Most of it - about 80 per cent - is produced by your liver. Dietary cholesterol is the stuff found in foods from animal sources (there is no cholesterol in plant foods). Meat, fish, poultry, eggs and dairy products all provide cholesterol in varying amounts. Only about 20 per cent of the cholesterol in your blood comes from eating foods that contain it. If you have been told that you have high cholesterol, your health professional is talking about your blood cholesterol levels. These are a concern because they're a major risk factor for heart disease. If you have high blood cholesterol or have a history of heart disease in your family, reducing your blood cholesterol to a healthy level is important for long-term good health. Cholesterol from foods is often blamed for high blood cholesterol levels. But for most people, cholesterol from foods has little effect on blood cholesterol levels. Family history, diabetes and thyroid, kidney or liver disease, smoking, lack of exercise, excess body weight and high fat diets are all important factors. High intakes of fat, especially saturated fat and trans fatty acids, are mainly responsible for increasing total and LDL (bad) blood cholesterol levels. Saturated fats are found mostly in meat, egg yolks, dairy products made from whole milk, and foods that contain hydrogenated fat, including palm or coconut oils. Trans fats (also called trans fatty acids) are found in foods that contain partially hydrogenated fats such as shortening, some margarine, French fries, doughnuts, breaded and fried chicken and fish, crackers, chips, cookies and bakery products. Trans fats act like saturated fats in our bodies and increase total and LDL blood cholesterol levels but also reduce HDL (good) blood cholesterol levels. Monounsaturated fats are found mostly in canola, olive and peanut oils and foods made with these oils, nuts and seeds. These fats help decrease total and LDL blood cholesterol. Polyunsaturated fats are found in oils made from sunflowers, safflowers, corn, soybeans, nuts, flaxseed and sesame seeds. These fats have been found to reduce total and LDL blood cholesterol levels, particularly when eaten as part of a diet that is lower in fat. The accepted approach for lowering or keeping blood cholesterol levels in a healthy range is to focus on reducing your total fat intake, especially the amount of saturated and trans fat that you eat. Omitting foods simply because they contain cholesterol is not the answer. Dairy products, meat and eggs all contains cholesterol but avoiding these foods could prevent you from getting some of the important nutrients found is these foods such as calcium, protein, iron, zinc or B-vitamins. Follow these steps to healthier blood cholesterol levels: . Exercise regularly. Make higher-fibre foods such as whole grain breads and cereals, fruits and vegetables the focus of each meal. Include more meals made with meat alternatives such as beans, peas, lentils and tofu. Choose lower-fat dairy products such as buttermilk, skim milk, 1% milk, and yogurt and cottage cheese made with 1% milk fat or less. Enjoy fish more often, choose lean cuts of meat, have poultry without skins and limit serving sizes to about the size of a deck of cards. Eat foods prepared with little or no extra fat. Have foods containing shortening or partially hydrogenated fats and oils in moderation. Read labels: "Cholesterol-free" foods can still be high in fat. Some examples include potato chips and cookies. Switching to a diet that is lower in fat, higher in fibre and participating in regular physical activity can help keep your blood cholesterol in a healthy range moreResolved Question: should i see another doctor?
i went for a physical to a doctor and everything was okay. however, my cholesterol was high.......we checked it at another date and it was still high. i am 22 , weigh 125 at 6'2. i am a guy... my diet is pretty bad i admit and i am pretty lazy but i still dont think it should be this bad....... moreVoting Question: Has anyone had any success lowering blood pressure and cholesterol with diet?
I take meds for each, but am having undesirable side effects. I wish to try (with extreme effort) to lower these numbers without medication. I am not anti-medication or doctor, but the cure seems worse than the problems. thank you-Edit: after reading some answers to older questions-let me state....I am not interested in perfect numbers (chol<200, bp ,<120/70) But something close enough to the old normal to make me feel like I don't need medication. I really do not care what the doctor wants which is stated above).Okay....thanks Rachel...you dropped 15 points on oatmeal and a green veggie. Thats what I'm talking about. moreResolved Question: What medical issues can be indicated by water blisters on the legs from knee to ankle?
My mom is 57-years-old and has been having some ongoing problems that I'm worried might be connected to each other in some way. She is very difficult to talk into seeing a doctor and so I would just like some possible conditions this could be related to so that I can research the specific conditions for her. Her symptoms include a HUGE amount of swelling in her legs, from her knees down to and throughout her feet. There is so much swelling that her legs are pretty red and this swelling has been going on for several months now. She DID go in to see her doctor about the swelling and had examinations done on her heart, kidneys, etc. and the doctor just didn't have any answers for her. She has type-2 diabetes and doesn't take care of herself that well, including the fact that she's quite obese, weighing in at over 300 pounds. She's already had knee replacement surgery and as such doesn't get much exercise because she doesn't feel sturdy on her legs. She has an office job where she sits throughout almost her entire full-time shift. So, her doctor prescribed her some water pills to relieve the edema, and it hasn't been helping. Now, months after the initial onset of the edema, she is developing water blisters all over her legs, extending from her knees down to her ankles. Other symptoms and problems she has had that may or may not be related are as follows: *A few dark spots in her peripheral vision *Pains in her chest, despite physician exam disproving relation to a heart condition *Recent high-level of weight gain (Due to edema??) *Loss of feeling in feet and legs, including no pain sensation *Inflammation of the fat on the left side of her abdomen (which was treated with antibiotics I believe) *Pain in her lower legs (most likely related to edema) *An extreme loss of bladder control, to where she doesn't even usually sense the need for urination, and she has been examined by her doctor for this, who sent her to a neurologist and a urinary specialist. She was told that she needs a urinary sling or something similar, but she only has been given a 20% chance of continuing success unless she loses weight, which she obviously has no ability to work on until her legs are better. This loss of control is so big that "Depends" and the like don't protect from the leakage. There seems to be no other problems going on other than this. Her blood sugar usually stays within healthy limits despite an unhealthy diet. Her blood pressure is within healthy limits and her cholesterol levels, etc. weren't really bad at her last testing. My poor mother just feels so helpless and worthless. She is NOT handling this situation well and feels like there's nothing that can be done to help her. I would really appreciate some type of information so that I can help her investigate what is going on, that way maybe when I finally do talk her into seeing her doctor again, she can point out ideas of what may be going on... maybe that way she doesn't walk out of a few more doctor's appointments as clueless as she walked into them. Please help. moreVoting Question: i have high cholesterol i am on a diet does anybody no if maximusle progain Extreme protein shake is bad for m?

My husband who is 25 and is in pretty good health has been complaining about a dull ache in his heart region off and on for the past week. He said it isn't necessarily painful, but is annoying and noticeably there. He just told me today about this because he knew I would worry (that is my nature and I love him dearly so it makes it worse..and here I am worrying). He gets really stressed and angry when he watches basketball games and apparently after last night's game he got the ache again right before bed and fell asleep with it. I am super worried about him but he doesn't seem to be worried at all (unless he is pretending to not care so I do not worry even more.) Do you think he should get medical treatment right away or wait to see if it improves? He does have high cholesterol in the 240s and has had it for around 5 years. He also has a poor diet with little to no vegetables or heart healthy stuff and that is changing today. He doesn't have any other symptoms associated with the pain but I've noticed he tires easily and lays down a lot more. moreResolved Question: How did you lower your cholesterol without statins?

I am terrified of needles and I'm not sure why. I know I had one bad experience that I can remember as a child, but I was afraid of needles before that. When I was five I had to get stitches in my head and they had to tie me down. And there was another incident after that where I had to go for a vaccine and I locked my self in the bathroom at home and my father kicked in the bathroom door to get me. I can not have blood drawn or an IV. I remember once I had to go for surgery and the dr had to put me out with gas before they could insert the IV. I have tried taking Valium, but I get myself so worked up it didn't help. And the dr said I had taken enough Valium to put me to sleep. I don't know what to do! I mentioned to my Dr that I was terrified of needles and all she did was hand me some lab paperwork and tell me when I got over my fear to go get blood drawn. I know I need to get blood work done, I have no idea what my cholesterol levels are, and I'm sure they're high because I'm overweight and don't have the best diet. I want to start exercising but I'm afraid I'll have a heart attack if I do, but I'm also scared I'll have one if I don't! I know blood work can find things that could be life threatening and help fix them, but no matter what I do I can't convince myself to get it done. I know I'll just walk into the office and fight with the Dr until they walk out of the room. I desperately need some advice, and just do it won't work, I've already tried that and it doesn't work for me!I'm a little too old to be this afraid of something like a needle! It's funny I have no problem wiht sewing needles or pins, but shots and blood work scare me! I have tried to just let the dr's do it, because I know it needs to be done, but the mind and fear are powerful things and no matter what i tell myself I can't seem to overcome it. I actually just threw out the lab paper work from the Dr, I tried to convince myself I could go for it, but fear won. Funny thing is, I remember my last vaccination, I raised such a fuss about it, i was about 15 or 16, and I had to hide my face in my boyfriend's shoulder, that was after about 2 hours of screaming, fighting and crying, and I can remember thinking that it was just a pinch and didn't hurt that much. But I can't bring myself to go for blood work. I also have my ears pierced, which I know a lot say is the same as getting a needle, I was in 4th or 5th grade when I had them pierced, and I screamed and cried then too. moreResolved Question: Strange symptoms: bruising, redness... ideas?
So, I'm just curious if anyone might have any ideas about what could be happening. Lately I've been bruising VERY easily, sometimes for no apparent reason at all. I ballroom dance, and my partner and I are doing a demo and have been practicing a few lifts. None of them are especially rough lifts on me, yet I have very clear bruises on my legs/midriff that perfectly show where my partner's fingers grip. Also, I have several bruises, particularly on my legs, that seem to be popping up out of no where, most very dark and bad looking. Additionally, I've noticed that I'm healing slowly, and seem to be "scarring". For example, a small cut on my finger that I got coming back to school from Christmas break is still very prominent and red, despite this having happened over two months now. I also have a mark on my foot from a cut I obtained in early October. Neither hurt; they're just still there. Neither injury was especially deep. The only other symptom I've noticed is fatigue, but that's not really anything terribly new; I'm in college, and as such tend to run around a lot/get stressed to the point of constantly wanting a nap. Given that most of my peers seem to feel the same way, I think this is normal. I had bloodwork done about a month ago (basic stuff; liver function, glucose, cholesterol, etc.) and everything came back normal. I'm relatively healthy, eat a good diet, exercise, etc. I'm a bit stressed out most of the time but, hey, what college kid isn't? So, the long and the short is, has anyone else experienced this, or does anyone have an idea as to what might be happening? moreVoting Question: can u help me add a few sentences to my paper? i dont know what else to write...?
i need like 5 more sentences. can u help me, and tell me where to add tehm. it doesnt ahve to be factual, it could e oppinionated or a generalization, whatever works. here my paper: High-Fructose Corn Syrup Not That Sweet The production of high-fructose corn syrup has many negative effects on the body, and on the environment. High-fructose corn syrup was introduced into the food market in the late 1970’s, as an effort to save money (Hand). Although high-fructose corn syrup extends the shelf life of processed foods, and is much cheaper than other, natural sweeteners, it isn’t worth including it in people’s diets when there are other alternatives (Zeratsky). Natural sweeteners are healthier, and they are eco-friendly, unlike HFCS. The production of high-fructose corn syrup should be banned, because much more than our health is at stake. High-fructose corn syrup is very unhealthy. It leads to many things, such as diabetes, and obesity. HFCS is much worse for you than natural sweeteners are. Yet, most people take in more high-fructose corn syrup than any other sweetener. The average person takes in seventy-eight pounds of high-fructose corn syrup per year; this is extremely unhealthy (Hopkins). When HFCS is digested, it foes directly to the liver, which releases enzymes that make the body store fat. This makes triglyceride and cholesterol levels rise. HFCS causes weight gain, because it slows down the fat-burning process. Also, it doesn’t stimulate insulin production. This usually allows a person to feel full, however, since it is not stimulated, it often causes people to overeat. Almost all products made with high-fructose corn syrup are high in calories, and low in nutritional value (Zeratsky). These foods cause people to become diabetic, which in turn, cause conditions like type two diabetes, high blood pressure, and coronary artery disease (Zeratsky). Also, almost half of commercial high-fructose corn syrup contains mercury. This is just one more reason why you shouldn’t consume products that contain HFCS. High-fructose corn syrup also has a terrible effect on the environment. When land is used solely for growing corn, it depletes soil nutrients, requiring more pesticides and fertilizers while weakening topsoil (Hartman). High-fructose corn syrup has created major problems in the Gulf of Mexico. There is an area, called the dead-zone, where virtually nothing will live because it has been starved of oxygen by the fertilizer runoff coming down the Mississippi River from the corn belt (Hartman). The production of high-fructose corn syrup is extremely hazardous to our planet, and should be banned, before it is too late. High-fructose corn syrup is in more foods than you would expect it to be. It’s in soda, ketchup, fruit drinks, beer, salad dressings, cereals, breads, flavored yogurt, sauces, and tons of other things (Hand). It is also in almost all fast food restaurants’ food. Just at Burger King, it is in everything from soda, to ketchup, and from breakfast syrup to tarter sauce (Kuhl). It’s even in things we think are healthy, like Burger King’s Sesame Seed Buns, and their Mott’s Applesauce (Kuhl). If you want to be healthier, you can limit the amount of high-fructose corn syrup in your diet, or eliminate it all together. Some ways to do this are to stop eating fast food, drink less soda, cut down on juices with a high concentration of sugar, and limit processed foods from your diet. According to a recent study, sixty-five percent of the American population wants to get rid of HFCS (Nestle). This study was based on three thousand participants that were taught about the positive and negative aspects of high-fructose corn syrup. These participants were all customers of Jason’s Deli, which has over two hundred outlets in the United States. Aware of the dangers caused by high-fructose corn syrup, Jason’s Deli banned it from all of its products (Nestle). By consuming products that contain HFCS, all we are doing is supporting it. If you want a healthier lifestyle, or if you want to go green, stop taking in high-fructose corn syrup. High-fructose corn syrup should be banned everywhere, before it can do any more damage than it already has.i know its alot, but for every person that answers ill post anther question and u can answer it, and ill give you best answer, even if you answer with "hi" or something. moreResolved Question: Is Lipitor really as bad as blogs suggest?

My husband is 30 and we are trying to find non-medicating ways to help control his cholesterol. While he does have elevated LDL (bad) cholesterol it's his low HDL (good) cholesterol that concerns us. So for the past six months i had this problem of everytime i was done eating i felt like i was choking and i could not breathe... So after ignoring it and saying that it is no big deal.. this got worst so i immediately thought that i probably have high cholesterol, (LDL) so i went online and did some research and at least two people said that it was not high cholesterol but it was Hiatal Hernia, so i finally went to the doctor to check my cholesterol and sadly i was right, the results showed that i have a 205 of LDL, the average is 170. so i changed my diet to semi-vegetarian= so i CUT OUT all red meat and all dairy products except for chicken, egg whites, and low- fat milk. what else should i do.. also i didn't tell my doctor about this, i just said that i needed my cholesterol checked but i am thinking of giving him another visit tomorrow again, because eventhough i stopped eating meat two days ago i still feel like i'm choking when i eat just rice so i just wanted to know since i changed my diet, what foods can i buy when i go grocercy shopping tomorrow. HI- I'm a 21 year old female- I'm 5'6 and 125lbs. Today I went to the doctor to get my blood test results and was a little shocked by my cholesterol levels. My total cholesterol was 222, my LDL was 160, and my HDL was 52, and my triglycerides were 48. I'm supposed to go back in 3 months to get rechecked with some diet adjustments- My boyfriend and I recently moved in together (he is from a Hispanic family, and his mom loves cooking so most of our meals do contain red meat, or are fried, and very FATTY) Or we eat out. a prescription for Lisinopril and told me to watch out for salt substitutes that could react with the medicine I am on (I also got one for Pravastatin-a cholesterol lowering drug, since my triglycerides also came back high!). I thought, NO PROBLEM, since I do not add salt to my food, this would be easy! Well, once I started reading the labels on the foods I eat, I found a HUGE problem, my canned veggies are LOADED with sodium, and my canned soups actually are FULL of salt. I have a pantry full of salt soaked foods! No wonder I never felt the need to add salt to stuff, I was eating plenty! Even found it loaded in some Entemanns donuts (who would thought a donut would be LOADED with hidden salt?). Anyways, now that I have become hyper vigilant about reading labels and avoiding added salts in my foods, I find I am now craving it. But I cannot afford the spikes in blood pressure, and am struggling to stay within my numbers and be healthy. I cannot find good substitutes that satisfy like salt, my old friend, for like roasts, potato soup (even homemade needs something in it!) and baking. Some have said sea salt is a good alternative, I have it, it still will send my blood pressure up, but not as bad as table salt or added salt in foods will. my bf is pretty heavy like 270 and 5'10. he recently decided to go on a low- carb, grain-free diet based on some internet articles he read. instead of eating healthy stuff that we normally eat like veggies and beans and whole wheat pasta, he is replacing it all with eggs and meat and butter and salad with blue cheese dressing. i don't understand how this can possibly be healthy. i've tried to tell him he should just continue to eat the same healthy foods we were eating, just in smaller portions and no seconds. but he's convinced this diet is healthy for him. i'm worried because his dad died of a heart attack at a young age, and he's never had his cholesterol checked. how can i convince him this is bad for him? or am i wrong? he's 32 years old. moreResolved Question: Worried we may not be able to conceive . . .?
Background . . . my husband and I got married at the end of October. We've since been TTC. Our honeymoon was over an ovulation period (we were quite active during that ovulation period). Nothing. We tried again at the end of November. Nothing. In December we tried a few times. And now I'm not sure . . . My last normal AF was 12/14/08. I'm regular . . . by the clock . . . I'm fairly precise every month. I get it on the day that I'm expecting it and it lasts 4 days and I can even count on the pattern - heavy - medium - light - stop - light - done. We had sex a few times during my ovulation period 12/21/08 - 12/25/08. AF was due on 1/8/09, instead started on 1/6/09 and was extremely light and color varied between brown to pink and once or twice a little bit of red with a clot or two. I thought maybe it was implantation bleeding - the problem was that it lasted from 1/6 - 1/10! From what I understand, implantation bleeding is only supposed to last for about a day - at the most. I took a PT on 1/8 and it was negative. I've not had any other symptoms. I'm thinking about taking another one tomorrow morning (I probably will), but I'm really nervous about this. We really want another child. Here may be some other contributing factors. I just turned 36. I smoke. I've been overweight all my life (not extremely so, but just so I've always been on the borderline of the BMI scale - always just managing to stay under 30). I just found out that I am pre-diabetic for certain - this is due to a combination of factors, primarily my weight, but also because of a predominating family history of diabetes - aunts, uncles, parents, brother, etc. all have it, and because I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with my daughter. I also am having problems with high cholesterol (not too bad yet, but doctor recommended fish oil, which I've been taking) and with a serious gall bladder problem (have an almost 2" gall stone that needs to be removed). I don't know if all of those things (on top of stress at a job that I hate) are contributing to my not being able to get pregnant or not. I didn't have any problem with my daughter. I was pregnant with her in about a month. This time around I started taking my prenatal vitamin with folic acid as soon as we decided to try. I've been doing my best to bring down the Blood Glucose levels with diet and exercise. And we're in the process of quitting smoking for good. The only thing different between now and my first pregnancy is the diabetes. I wasn't diabetic before I got pregnant with my daughter. I've found so much conflicting info on the web about the correlation between diabetes and infirtility, that it has my head reeling. I'm not sure of what to make of all of it. (And before you write it, I already have an appointment with my doctor.) Yet my levels aren't that terribly high, either. My doc said I was closer to being pre-diabetic. I just treat it as if I actually have it. Has anyone gone through this? I'm really looking for some good advice, suggestions, commiserations . . . more
